Year 12 Hillary Outdoors Trip
During the first week of the holidays, 29 Year 12 students, accompanied by Ms Davina Derecourt, Mr Sean Bristow and Mrs Jodie Scott, undertook a five-day guided outdoor education programme at Hillary Outdoors Centre in Tongariro National Park. Located within New Zealand's oldest national park and surrounded by unique volcanic landscape, the programme provided students with opportunities to challenge themselves while exploring one of the country's most iconic outdoor environments.
Throughout the week, students participated in a range of activities including abseiling, rock climbing, overnight group camps, bush experiences, and alpine adventures. The activities were designed to develop outdoor skills, build resilience, strengthen relationships through teamwork, and encourage students to step outside their comfort zones with the guidance and support of experienced Hillary Outdoors instructors. A particular highlight for many students was the alpine day, which saw the group venture up onto the mountain and into the snow.
The trip provided an outstanding opportunity for personal growth, connection, and the creation of lasting memories.
